Bearberry

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi

Bearberry is a North American native shrub found in many mountain ranges across the US and Canada. It is unique for producing one of the highest concentrations of alpha arbutin of any plant. The leaves of most plants in the genus are packed full of this amazing compound. Alpha arbutin is well known as a safe an extremely effective skin brightening agent. It is related to hydroquinone, but has been shown to have fewer side effects. We use Bearberry in all of our Illuminating range products, to provide powerful but gentle brightening effects for a more luminous complexion.

Bearberry grows easily on the farm, uses little water, and spreads out as a gorgeous evergreen groundcover.
