Safflower

Carthamus tinctorius

Safflowers are small, low-growing flowers that produce an oil-rich seed. We hand-press the seeds in our oil press, and occasionally purchase a small amount of safflower oil to supplement our production. Safflower oil is one of the staple ingredients in our Illuminating line, because research has shown that it has powerful brightening abilities. It is also a light but nourishing oil that quickly sinks into the skin.

Safflower grows easily on the farm with little water and makes a lovely carpet of soft golds and oranges in the fall.
